History of the Festival

From garlic & tomatoes, to heirloom produce.

The Tasmanian Garlic & Tomato Festival began in 2015, thanks to the passion of Annette Reed and her husband Nevil, founders of Tasmanian Natural Garlic & Tomatoes. Initially, it was a modest event aimed at promoting their farm's produce in Selbourne. Since then, a volunteer committee was formed, and the festival blossomed into a beloved community gathering, drawing thousands of visitors eager to celebrate local and seasonal produce.

In 2025, the festival found a new home at Quamby Estate in Hagley, continuing its tradition of bringing together families, growers, and food enthusiasts from the Meander Valley and beyond. This move opened up the possibility of expanding the festival's focus to include a broader range of heirloom produce, inspired by the historic property’s rich agricultural heritage. This expansion to the Tasmanian Heirloom Festival aims to offer festival-goers a more comprehensive experience of Tasmania's heirloom produce, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the unique flavours and stories behind these traditional crops.
